United Kingdom: Enhanced Scientific Cooperation

UK flag

The Institut Pasteur has proactively stepped up its scientific cooperation with top-flight British institutions, chief among which is the University of Oxford. Its links with the university are based on well-established and flourishing partnerships, notably including a joint doctoral program active since 2019, long-standing collaboration on microbial genomics, and regular dialog between scientists at the two institutions.

The areas covered by these partnerships align with major global health priorities on antimicrobial resistance, epidemiological modeling of infectious diseases, immunology and inflammation, mycology, and the development of data platforms for infectious diseases. Joint exploratory work is also under way in the fields of structural biology, advanced pathogen imaging, and women's health. These partnerships form part of a broader multi-institutional framework involving Université Paris Cité and the Soleil synchrotron facility owned by the CNRS and CEA on the French side, as well as Diamond Light Source and other British partners.

All these initiatives reflect a shared commitment on the part of France and the United Kingdom to strengthening their scientific ties at a time when the United Kingdom has resumed its participation in European research programs. The Pasteur Foundation UK also contributes to supporting and promoting this French-British cooperation.
