Development and plasticity of the nervous system

Description

Master 2 students from partner Universities (Sorbonne University and University of Paris Cité) MUST NOT register online and must submit their registration request DIRECTLY to contacts in charge of their university course. These students have free access to the course.

All other students must register online and pay their registration fees.

This course offers a full training program for advanced graduate and PhD students, as well as post-graduate neurobiologists and medical doctors working in neurosciences.

Lectures given by distinguished international speakers present new data and ideas on molecular and cellular aspects of the nervous system development, its plasticity and its diseases.

Practical courses present various animal models (mouse, chick, frog, drosophila) commonly used in neuroscience research, giving students the opportunity to understand the pros and cons of each technique and to expand their practical skills in carrying out experiments on cell biology, behavioral studies, axonal growth and labeling, drug stereotaxic injection, neuro-anatomy and gene expression analyses using histochemical techniques.

The program of the course organized the previous year can be downloaded to get detailed information on the general frame of the course; some topics and practical works may change each year, without altering the general aims and means of the course.

Candidates must have a good knowledge of basic laboratory techniques at the Master degree level. The committee of the course will evaluate applications.

A students exchange program between Sorbonne University, Institut Pasteur and Alicante University allows few selected students to be nominated to join a truly european learning environment and study new and complementary technologies to their ongoing respective courses. Programs will be taught in english in the two countries (France and Spain). The respective staff in both countries provides support for accommodation on or near the campus.
