Microbiomes in Health and Diseases: mechanistic understanding for clinical implications

Moving beyond descriptive cataloging, the program will embrace a functional mechanistic approach to microbial communities—comprising bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and bacteriophages—that collectively play central roles in health and diseases trajectories. Through cross-cutting deep dives combining molecular microbiology, computational biology, immunology, and neuroscience, participants will examine microbiota-host communication governing metabolic homeostasis, immune education, neurological development, behavior, etc.. Dedicated sessions will explore microbiomes as active agents in physiology and as “living drugs,” from fecal transplantation to next-generation biotherapeutics, illuminating strategies to engineer these ecosystems for precision medicine. 1 day will be dedicated to metagenomic data analysis, from raw sequencing data to publishable figures.

• Audience : Designed for PhD scientists, clinicians, biotechnologists, global health professionals and industrials, this Pasteur Course bridges fundamental microbial ecology and therapeutic implementation. Led by Benoit Chassaing with faculty across all Pasteur departments as well as international invited speakers, it convenes leading experts to equip participants with conceptual frameworks and integrative tools to decode microbiome complexity and participate in the clinical transition the field is currently facing.
