Description
Program of the course
We will discuss during this course, how hepatitis viruses can act at different stages in the complex multistep process of carcinogenesis. Early events including their involvement in mutagenic events associated with tumor initiation such as viral integration and insertional mutagenesis as well as viral promotion of DNA damage will be developed. Epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis and treatment will be also developed and discussed. Lectures will be given during morning sessions by internationally recognized experts in their field of research. To ensure interactivity, several round tables will be organized to allow students to discuss with experts, to ask questions and globally to exchange and pave the way for future collaborations.
Objectives of the course
The aim of the course is to educate graduates and post-graduates with understanding and expertise in hepatitis viruses, with a particular focus on hepatocellular carcinogenesis, immune defences, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. This course is located at the intersection between virology, immunology and cancer. This specific theoretical knowledge will provide students with the critical judgement and skills to pursue a career in the field of virology, immunology or cancer. The focus of this course will be to strengthen the knowledge and competence of students in this field.
The program has a significant theoretical teaching component to ensure that the students gain maximal exposure to a wide range of clinically relevant hepatitis viruses associated with human hepatocellular carcinoma. Interactions and discussions with lecturers will be one of the priorities of this course and will be privileged.
