Description
This full-time course consists of lectures by international scientists and a practical training workshop. The language of the lectures and practical training is English, but assistance can be provided for French speakers during the practical sessions.
Lectures will cover: history of tuberculosis (TB); global epidemiology and societal impact; pathophysiology and immune response in TB; molecular epidemiology and evolution of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex; TB vaccines; HIV co-infection and association with diabetes; paediatric TB; mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics; methods for diagnosis and drug susceptibility testing, both culture-based and molecular; AI and computer-assisted diagnosis of chest Xrays; treatments including multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) TB.
The practical workshop will focus on training in TB diagnostic methods, including conventional (smear-staining and culture) and molecular (NAATs, NGS-based, etc) methods. Bioinformatics workshops will enable sequencing analysis into the genomic determinants of antibiotic resistance and typing. There will also be an introduction to NGS methods (amplicon-based or whole genome-based).
