When to visit the Medical Center

  • Emergencies and acute illness after traveling abroad

Any health problems that occur after traveling to a tropical or high-risk region should be taken seriously. Symptoms like fever, persistent diarrhea, skin rashes or intense fatigue may be signs of an imported tropical disease such as malaria, typhoid fever or leishmaniasis. They should be examined as soon as possible by a specialist.

  • High-risk sexual exposure or accidental exposure to blood or other body fluids
  • We offer an emergency service for people at risk of infection after exposure to blood or other body fluids, or to any other infectious agents.
  • Monitoring chronic infections: HIV, hepatitis
  • The Medical Center also offers regular, personalized monitoring for patients with chronic infections such as HIV or hepatitis B or C
  • Anti-Rabies Center
  • Our Anti-Rabies Center is open to anyone who has been bitten or scratched by an animal or who may have been exposed to rabies

Before traveling

Our specialists can inform you of any health risks in your destination and offer advice on recommended vaccinations, appropriate treatments (e.g. antimalarial drugs) and precautions to take depending on your health status. We offer particular guidance to vulnerable travelers, such as immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, elderly people and young children.

After traveling

When you get back from a trip to a tropical region or a destination with specific infectious risks, any symptoms should be assessed immediately. Our team diagnoses and treats imported tropical diseases, many of which can have successful outcomes if detected early.

Humanitarian missions

We can offer tailored support for humanitarian workers based on the specific conditions they will be exposed to in the field, including a full medical check-up, pre-travel vaccinations and treatment for any diseases contracted after returning to France.

Necker-Pasteur Center for Infectious Diseases

In 2005, the Institut Pasteur Medical Center joined forces with the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital to establish the Necker-Pasteur Center for Infectious Diseases.

This leading center in the Greater Paris region offers a range of clinical, microbiological, scientific and epidemiological expertise that is unique in France. The center has two key missions:

1.    To develop an innovative approach to treating infectious diseases in children and adults, incorporating prevention, diagnosis, care, teaching and clinical research.

2.    To respond to public health challenges involving infectious diseases in western Paris as part of an integrated health network.
