America Regions

Spanning almost 15,000 kilometers, the Americas and Caribbean are among the world's most disparate regions with a diverse range of ecosystems, populations, socio-economic conditions, and climate and health contexts. They are home to six Pasteur Network members forming a unique scientific network based on long-term collaboration, trust and complementary expertise with a clear focus on 21st century health challenges.

The Institut Pasteur has gradually established a presence in the Americas based on long-standing collaborations with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and through its two institutes in the French overseas territories (in French Guiana and Guadeloupe). Over the years, it has also forged links with other prestigious scientific and public health institutions in the region. With their state-of-the-art core facilities (genomics and sequencing, artificial intelligence, Amazonian Vectopole) complementing those of the Institut Pasteur, these institutions are scientific partners aligned with Institut Pasteur strategic priorities and key global health agendas.

The Institut Pasteur and the six members of the Pasteur Network in Brazil (2), Canada, French Guiana, Guadeloupe and Uruguay are involved in numerous research and capacity-building projects focused mainly on three topics, namely: emerging or re-emerging zoonotic infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and chronic diseases.

Thanks to these institutions with core facilities and expertise complementing those of the Institut Pasteur, the Americas region serves as both a high-tech monitoring station for global health risks and a laboratory formulating innovative responses that the Institut Pasteur is fortunate to support, observe, understand and promote.
