Asia-Pacific Region

Asia-Pacific is a region in which the Institut Pasteur has long forged international links, going back to the first overseas Institut Pasteur established in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in 1891. With Institut Pasteur scientists involved in over a hundred ongoing research projects in the region, efforts to strengthen ties in Asia-Pacific, by formalizing key partnerships and coordinating large-scale regional projects, remain a priority. The Asia-Pacific region boasts a high level of scientific expertise and a variety of field research sites, making it a key player in health research.

The Asia-Pacific region is one of the world's major areas of infectious disease emergence due to a combination of factors including: diverse and disrupted ecosystems, high population density, and frequent population displacement.

The Institut Pasteur is involved in numerous joint research projects with the region's nine Pasteur Network member institutes with a view to tackling global health issues including threats linked to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases based on a One Health approach.

More recent cooperation has focused on other, equally strategic research areas for the Institut Pasteur, including health at the extremes of life with a specific emphasis on the effects of aging.
